“It’s Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, and he’s a wild man, so bug off.”
(Yesterday, I finally watched Stranger than Paradise after having the disc out from Netflix since June 14th. I now find myself hooked on this song.)
The song that plays in my head any time some punk-ass beyotch scuffs my Air Jordans.
Finally transferred the data from my previous harddrive over to my new, current one. 126 GB of data from 2001 to 2011.
I’ve only been without it since late February, but despite that it feels like it’s been years. Happy to have it all back! So happy that I’m going to share with you the oldest mp3 on my harddrive! (From Thursday, April 05, 2001, 3:18:26 PM.)
It may or may not surprise you depending on how well you know me.

i’m on spotify as well, and i can’t seem to figure it out. how are you finding new music? unless i search, i only can browse through the most popular music.
I’m not really finding anything new-new per se, only new to me. I just type in whatever I’m in the mood for exploring and yeah, I use the search feature (also, I’ve only used the Windows version of the Spotify app so far. Haven’t used the Mac version yet in case there are differences.) I haven’t really looked up anything too obscure, the most far-out thing I looked for were some of the Beijing bands I like and surprisingly enough, just about each one was present.
I started using Spotify about 24 hours ago. I was lucky enough to receive an email invite; something I had signed up for as soon as they began taking requests (approximately 3 weeks ago.)
At first I wasn’t that impressed and couldn’t figure out what all of the overseas hype was. But after using it for an hour I began to realize how Spotify will probably integrate into my daily life.
With Spotify, I’m listening to a lot of things I’d never in my life bother to download, purchase, or view on YouTube. I guess I’d relate it to Netflix streaming.
That’s just how I see myself using it though. I can see this being pretty amazing to either casual internet users or people that are wary of illegal downloads, who would rather not deal with YouTube videos. Some analysts have said it will be a Pandora killer. I can see that, although I never cared much for Pandora (I’ve never actually discovered anything on it, it always gave me songs I knew, as opposed to Last.fm, which introduced me to many things.)
Once I’m granted some invites, if I have enough I’ll offer some up on here to any interested followers who live in “Sweden, Norway, Finland, the UK, France, Spain, The Netherlands or the US.”, i.e. the countries Spotify will be available in. In the meantime, if you’re eligible sign up through the site for an invite like I did. You might just get lucky.
This has been my jam lately.
(So upset that I didn’t see them when they were in New York. I knew who they were and that they were playing, but I didn’t know they sounded like this. I remembered them being a bit more bubblegum punk, a la the Ramones.)
Although it’s been about 11 days since I first got onto it (likely thanks to sacrilegium), I only started to DJ this morning and I’m pretty hooked on it.
Since I played Jet Grind Radio at the age of 11 (funny to see that number again!) I’ve always fancied being the DJ of a pirate radio station. It’s my “I WANNA BE AN ASTRONAUT-COWBOY” dream job if I’ve ever had one, and this is the closest I’ve gotten to that experience.
Blip.fm and 8tracks have given me similar happiness, and I’ll still be using those services, but they haven’t been able to quell this nagging desire to the degree that Turntable.fm has.
Childish career fantasies aside, this site is a tremendously enjoyable social experience and I recommend anyone out there to try it (especially those of you who are friends with me on Facebook!) This, along with the imminent release of a U.S. version of Spotify are going to be huge game changers in the way Americans listen to music on the internet.
Turntable.fm is currently in beta, and only those who either have a proper email invite or a Facebook friend on Turntable.fm are allowed in. If you can’t get in and desperately want in, and you’re a follower of my Tumblr, leave a Reply and I’ll link you to my Facebook and hopefully then you’ll be able to get in.
I am interested, although I’m not too sure what it involves.
I invited Alana who I told to invite Amanda. If neither of them send you one by Tuesday, I’ll give ya one.
